Anarchy
Some writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins ... Society is in every state a blessing, but Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one.
--Thomas Paine - _Common Sense_
Anarchism is defined by _The American Heritage College Dictionary_ as "The theory or doctrine that all forms of government are unnecessary, oppressive, and undesirable and should be abolished." Anarchism is a negative; it holds that one thing, namely government, is bad and should be abolished. Aside from this defining tenet, it would be difficult to list any belief that all anarchists hold. Just as atheists might support or oppose any viewpoint consistent with the non-existence of God, anarchists might and indeed do hold the entire range of viewpoints consistent with the non-existence of the state.

As a value, is non-coercion negative? Or lack of disease?. Anarchist thought generally strives to describe a positive solution to how we can/should live together without the historically flawed implementations of business, church, and especially, government. I believe that AI and Space offer an opportunity to achieve this - however I fear that getting there will not be without further sacrifice. Bill and Ted said it well - "Be excellent to one another".

Would that I could salute you as free persons, but we are everywhere bound by the chains of those who insist on their 'right' to rule us. Our worst chains are forged of ignorance and intolerance, for these are chains we mend ourselves.

This is a list of pages that explore various facets of Anarchist thought. Explore these ideas, listen to your heart, mind, and soul, have compassion, learn understanding - seek freedom.
